Description

Carving is a medium of creativity, expression and mindfulness - but for it to be best used as such, carvers must understand and master the foundational principles of the craft.

Enter Ted O'Donnell. Ted is a Sydney-based woodworker, carver and teacher whose passion for timber is utterly infectious. His influences are wide ranging and give his work a timeless elegance, while his philosophical approach to woodwork encompasses mindfulness, curiosity and playfulness.

Join Ted for a Thursday evening in the JTA workshop as he shares the technical foundations of carving with you. At the end of the evening you will leave with your own spoon, carved with your own two hands, as well as a thorough understanding of basic carving techniques and tricks.

Ted will provide an overview of splitting blanks, identifying and working with grain, developing a design and bringing it to life. For those who are starting out with carving, or are self-taught and looking for some inspiration, this session promises to be an absolute tonic.

When: March 14th, 6.30pm to 9.30pm.
Where: JTA Workshop - 29 Production Ave, Kogarah
Bring: All tools and timber provided, but bring your own tools if you like.
Eat: Beforehand. Light refreshments only available.
