At JTA we are proud of our order turnaround times and work hard to ensure the best possible service.

We are NOT a drop-shipping company and hold all of our stock in Sydney. We dispatch every weekday, and we are usually able to dispatch orders received before 12pm on the same day. If you urgently require your purchase we suggest that you select express shipping at checkout to ensure we prioritise your parcel.

Shipping Charges:

We have revised our logistics systems to offer the best possible postage price to our customers. All prices are in $AUD.

Within Australia:

Regular Post: $12.50, tracking number emailed to you at dispatch

Express Post: $19.50, tracking number emailed to you at dispatch

Within New Zealand:

We are now able to offer our New Zealand customers $17 flat-rate shipping on orders under 2kg.  For orders heavier than 2kg the following rates apply:

<2kg: $17

3kg: $27

4kg: $32

5kg: $35

Express Courier International:

Flat Rate - AU$35 on orders up to 2kg (4.4lbs)

For orders over this weight:

<3kg: $62

<4kg: $67

<5kg: $74

For orders over 5kg in weight, please email us at info@japanesetools.com.au

Prices for all other international orders are calculated at checkout according to Australia Post’s standard rates.

Please be aware some international countries may charge additional taxes when your order goes through customs. Prices on the JTA website do not include these charges and it is the customer's responsibility to cover this.

Delivery Times inside Australia:

These are estimates only. All orders are sent with a tracking code via our shipping app Shippit, and we recommend you use this to check on your order's progress.

From the date of dispatch we expect the following delivery times within Australia:

Regular Post: Within 3-5 business days (metro areas) or 4-8 business days (rural areas)

Express Post: 1-2 business days (metro areas) or 2-4 business days (rural areas)

Plastic-free Policy:

Japanese Tools Australia is an environmentally conscious company and we endeavour to eliminate plastics in as many parts of our business as possible. Your purchase will be shipped in recyclable non-plastic materials, and we re-use cardboard and paper wherever possible in our shipping process.

Exceptions to plastic-free policy:

Unfortunately, we are required to dispatch some express items in pre-paid satchels and in such circumstances we have no choice but to use a plastic satchel. Please keep in mind these satchels are 100% recyclable. Our suppliers also use plastic in their packaging of some products, and we do not remove these protective measures before shipping. We are considering strategies to eliminate these two remaining sources of plastic in our shipping process. As many of our items are hand-made, they do not arrive to us or to you with extraneous packaging, though this is not the case for all of our products.

Breakage in shipping policy:

We pack our shipments in specialised materials to ensure that our customers find them in the same condition that we send them. If you receive your products in a damaged condition, please email info@japanesetools.com.au with your order number and photos of the condition of the products within a week of collection. If an item is deemed to have been damaged in transit we will replace it with like kind at no extra shipping cost to the customer.

If you are unhappy with the condition of your product and it has not been damaged in transit, please refer to our returns and exchanges policy.

Description

Each chisel has white Japanese oak handles and is made with number 2 blue paper steel, laminated with soft iron. Kawasei is a well known blacksmith from Niigata. The chisels are used for medium to heavy work. Therefore, they have no iron hoop and cannot be struck with a steel hammer.

They can, however, definitely be hit with a timber mallet. These chisels are used for light finishing work involving printmaking, traditional mass carving in Japan e.g. relief carving, print block. They can also be used for medium sized carving e.g. free standing sculptures as the timber handles and the construction of the chisel can be hit with a wooden mallet.

This 15-piece set contains the following chisels:

  1. flat 15mm dovetail chisel
  2. 12mm right hand skew
  3. 12mm gouge
  4. 9mm gouge
  5. 12mm cranked gouge
  6. 9mm flat dovetail
  7. 7mm Yari-Kanna

The Best Service I Have Ever Had

I have been doing business with JTA for many years and am happy to share my experience of friendly, helpful and excellent service form the experienced people are more interested in making sure the customer purchases the right tool for the job that needs to be done, rather than just making a sale and maximising profit. I rate this company as a twelve out of ten!

Kawasei Carving Tool Set, 15 piece

I purchased these chisels half a year ago; 'They are magnificent!' It's simple so; you don't want to put them out of your hands. I have to protect them for my wife (who is also a sculptour) I shal be forced to buy a second set for her ;^)
