Japanese Tools Australia has the perfect gift for anyone who appreciates boxes, puzzles, fine veneer work or a beautiful object. Himitsu Bako, meaning secret box, is a traditional Japanese timber box, which started well over a century ago. Yosegi, meaning timber mosaic from different coloured timber, is unique to Hakone Mountains. It is here where many species of timber are found that create the beautiful patterns.
These boxes are fun and amazing objects. The Himitsu Bako 5sun requires 21 movements to open the lid of the box. There is also a 7 movements and a 4 movements to open the lid. Both the design and engineering of each box are clever and unique.

A great gents gift
The perfect gift for someone who has everything. They are so well made and fun to play with . All 3 look great on my coffee table at home and I’m sure they would look amazing on the desk at work . The cost is cheap for how well they are made . Andrew
Keeping challenged in the time of lockdown
Father’s Day came during Melbourne’s deep lockdown. It was challenging to find something for a gift. The Japanese Puzzle box was perfect. It looks beautiful, and it was challenging to unlock the secret and it continues to challenge guests. Gradually lockdown is unlocking so too is the mystery of unlocking the box as more people come to visit and see this mysterious thing of beauty.
Precision puzzling
Exquisitely finished wood inlaid box that keeps people busy trying to get to the secret compartment. Great workmanship
Beautiful piece of work
Loved this. Got it as a gift for my Father. The finish and build quality is excellent.
Japanese puzzle box
My recent purchase of the Japanese puzzle box was a gift for my daughter whom is currently on exchange in Japan. My husband and I tinkered with it ,without the instructions at first, and opened it to place a pair of earrings in as a birthday surprise for her. The craftsmanship, packaging and presentation exceeded our expectations. Her birthday is in the coming days so we can’t wait for her to figure out the puzzle and open the box. Thank you so much.
