My favourite gauge

I bought my first gauge thirty years ago at a famous store in Seattle called Hardwicks. It was very inexpensive and I thought give it a try. It is now my favourite gauge by far because it's very comfortable in the hand, easy to adjust, cuts a perfect gauge line for your blade to follow and the steel is incredibly hard. I have only sharpened it twice. I do use western gauges to, depending on the job and I have two of this type. You often need to set a few gauges to mark out joints accurately. I really need a third. I prefer the really small one because ninety percent of the time it's all you need.
They are impossible to break and mark much better than a pin gauge. It's a deceptively simple looking tool that looks primitive but it works brilliantly. Get one.
