Atoma Diamond Sheets and Bases

2 reviews
$113 AUD

These diamond sheets are identical to the sheets used in our Atoma diamond plates. However, instead of supplying them attached to an aluminium substrate, these sheets are supplied with a waterproof adhesive backing and can be stuck to any substrate the user wishes to use.

While they are generally used as a replacement abrasive sheet for the full plates, we have sourced two alternative substrates to pair with them.

The first is a glass substrate. We have chosen glass to pair with the diamond sheets because it is a known flat surface. Once adhered to the diamond sheet, you have what is effectively a flat diamond plate with little degree of variation. It is slightly lighter than the aluminium version and can be used in all the same ways, but is especially well-suited to flattening waterstones. A diamond sheet can be adhered to either side of the glass, potentially creating a double-sided diamond plate of excellent flatness.

The second substrate we carry is a heavy mild steel plate. 10mm longer than our steel lapping plates but otherwise identical, these bases have been machined flat to within 0.005mm. We commissioned these plates because a customer asked for a heavy grinding plate that could be held above a bench in a metal-working vice. Once the diamond sheet has been adhered to the plate it can be used for heavy grinding applications with complete confidence in having a quantified flat surface. The reverse can have a second Atoma sheet adhered to it, or used as a steel lapping plate with your choice of cutting medium. To use a steel-backed diamond plate to flatten waterstones, we suggest leaving the plate on the bench and passing the stones over the top, as it becomes very hefty.

Please note that prices in this listing are for individual grits of diamond sheets and individual glass or steel plates. To buy one of each, please add each to your cart. We will pack and ship these item separately, and the user will need to stick the plate to their chosen substrate.

Plastic-free Policy:

Japanese Tools Australia is an environmentally conscious company and we endeavour to eliminate plastics in as many parts of our business as possible. Your purchase will be shipped in recyclable non-plastic materials, and we re-use cardboard and paper wherever possible in our shipping process.

Exceptions to plastic-free policy:

Unfortunately, we are required to dispatch some express items in pre-paid satchels and in such circumstances we have no choice but to use a plastic satchel. Please keep in mind these satchels are 100% recyclable. Our suppliers also use plastic in their packaging of some products, and we do not remove these protective measures before shipping. We are considering strategies to eliminate these two remaining sources of plastic in our shipping process. As many of our items are hand-made, they do not arrive to us or to you with extraneous packaging, though this is not the case for all of our products.

Breakage in shipping policy:

We pack our shipments in specialised materials to ensure that our customers find them in the same condition that we send them. If you receive your products in a damaged condition, please email orders@japanesetools.com.au with your order number and photos of the condition of the products within a week of collection. If an item is deemed to have been damaged in transit we will replace it with like kind at no extra shipping cost to the customer.

If you are unhappy with the condition of your product and it has not been damaged in transit, please refer to our returns and exchanges policy.

We stand behind the quality of our tools. If a tool is found to be faulty or damaged in transit, we will verify the issue with you, and offer a refund or exchange when the problem is brought to our attention within 30 days from purchase. If problems arise outside of this period this policy will apply at our discretion. Where a refund or exchange is agreed upon, we will mail you a paid addressed bag to return your items, verify their condition once we receive them, and then process a refund or mail the new item.

If a tool is purchased as a present or the purchaser changes their mind, we will exchange for stock of equal value or store credit when we are contacted within 2 weeks of the purchase. We ask that the customer covers the cost of shipping in these instances. We will take a payment for shipping over the phone, send you a paid addressed envelope, verify the goods' condition once we receive them, and then mail the new item.

If a tool is damaged through improper use, we encourage you to contact us. We may not be able to exchange the tool, but may be able to offer advice on technique or recommend a more appropriate tool. Where possible, we encourage our cutomers to ask us questions about our tools' use before they purchase them. We can be contacted at info@japanesetools.com.au or 02 9527 3870.

Sorry, we can't exchange gift cards.

Diamond Sheet

Needed a faster way to restore a chisels square edge than using 300 grit stone, the Atoma #140 diamond sheet is perfect for this and for flattening whetstones up to about 400 grit. The #140 was an ideal addition to my stones at the very coarse end for heavy lapping. 140 diamond to remove and shape, then 300 stone and 1000 stone to hone and finally 6000 stone to provide a razor sharp and mirror like finish. Very happy with how the Atoma #140 diamond sheet performs.

Excellent tool

Stuck this one to the other side of my Atoma 400, so now I have an all-in-one whetstone lapping solution. Not suitable for raw stone and very heavy lapping, but it works perfectly for all of those old dished stones when you want to bring the surface back to flat (in no time at all). Just a beast diamond plate, as expected from Atoma. Outstanding service from JTA, too.
