This fine lapping powder is ideal for lapping the backs of chisels, plane blades and other Japanese tools.
We use this with our mild steel lapping plate. It gives a lovely matte finish, which can be refined to a polish by wiping the excess slurry from the plate and working the plate with a small amount of water.
We recommend using a small amount at a time (about a 5-cent coin's worth).
Shapton recommends that this powder be used with it's own lapping plate to flatten fine grit waterstones, though we haven't used it in this way yet.
