These carving gouges are designed for the roughing out of hollows and bowls. Best held with the blade protruding from the bottom of the hand, these gouges are easily controlled for precise cuts in all woods.
We offer these tools in two widths and two bevel angles. The 25 degree bevels are well suited to making smooth cuts in softer woods, while the 30 degree bevels will provide greater edge life and are able to tackle harder timbers.
Each of these gouges are forged from Shirogami white paper steel, a high carbon steel with few impurities and no additives, therefore the blade is very hard and will take an extremely sharp edge, however, it will also need to be protected from corrosion between uses.
