New to us at JTA, but not to the Shapton lineup, this pair of coarse stones can now be bought together for a great discount.
While nominally close in grit, these two present a dynamic duo. The #120 is hard, unforgiving and offers a massive grain size. The #220 is a softer formulation, with an easier feel and a more even scratch pattern.
We have really enjoyed man-handling bevels into shape on the #120, refining them on the #220 and then going on up to a #1000 (via the #320 when feeling indulgent, or directly).
Even then though, we recommend spending time in the next highest grit to refine the scratches from this pair of rough characters.
