At JTA we are proud of our order turnaround times and work hard to ensure the best possible service.

We are NOT a drop-shipping company and hold all of our stock in Sydney. We dispatch every weekday, and we are usually able to dispatch orders received before 12pm on the same day. If you urgently require your purchase we suggest that you select express shipping at checkout to ensure we prioritise your parcel.

Shipping Charges:

We have revised our logistics systems to offer the best possible postage price to our customers. All prices are in $AUD.

Within Australia:

Regular Post: $9.50, tracking number emailed to you at dispatch

Express Post: $16.50, tracking number emailed to you at dispatch

Within New Zealand:

We are now able to offer our New Zealand customers $15 flat-rate shipping on orders under 2kg.  For orders heavier than 2kg the following rates apply:

<2kg: $15

For orders over 5kg in weight, please email us at info@japanesetools.com.au

Prices for all other international orders are calculated at checkout according to Australia Post’s standard rates.

Please be aware some international countries may charge additional taxes when your order goes through customs. Prices on the JTA website do not include these charges and it is the customer's responsibility to cover this.

Delivery Times inside Australia:

These are estimates only. All orders are sent with a tracking code via our shipping app Shippit, and we recommend you use this to check on your order's progress.

From the date of dispatch we expect the following delivery times within Australia:

Regular Post: Within 3-5 business days (metro areas) or 4-8 business days (rural areas)

Express Post: 1-2 business days (metro areas) or 2-4 business days (rural areas)

Plastic-free Policy:

Japanese Tools Australia is an environmentally conscious company and we endeavour to eliminate plastics in as many parts of our business as possible. Your purchase will be shipped in recyclable non-plastic materials, and we re-use cardboard and paper wherever possible in our shipping process.

Exceptions to plastic-free policy:

Unfortunately, we are required to dispatch some express items in pre-paid satchels and in such circumstances we have no choice but to use a plastic satchel. Please keep in mind these satchels are 100% recyclable. Our suppliers also use plastic in their packaging of some products, and we do not remove these protective measures before shipping. We are considering strategies to eliminate these two remaining sources of plastic in our shipping process. As many of our items are hand-made, they do not arrive to us or to you with extraneous packaging, though this is not the case for all of our products.

Breakage in shipping policy:

We pack our shipments in specialised materials to ensure that our customers find them in the same condition that we send them. If you receive your products in a damaged condition, please email info@japanesetools.com.au with your order number and photos of the condition of the products within a week of collection. If an item is deemed to have been damaged in transit we will replace it with like kind at no extra shipping cost to the customer.

If you are unhappy with the condition of your product and it has not been damaged in transit, please refer to our returns and exchanges policy.

Description

Shapton glass stones are known for their exceptional quality, durability, and ease of use. Made with finely graded ceramic cutting media that requires less flattening and lasts 4-5 times longer than most water stones.

Each stone is composed of a 5mm tempered glass backing plate fused to a 5mm thick stone. The abrasives are extremely uniform, meaning the abrasive encountered with the first pass of a blade will be the same as the 5000th pass.

In the higher grits there are two options which allows users to select stones suitable to each blades composition and shape, giving great sharpening and a perfect finish.

The HC option is designed for High Carbon blades and has a less aggressive cutting feel. The HR series is optimised for more modern blade steels.

The Shapton Glass Stone #6000HR grit gives straight razors an extremely sharp edge. With a particle size of 2.45 microns, it is ideal for finishing and providing a well-polished edge, this stone can also be used for daily maintenance and edge realignment.

This is a 'splash and go' style of stone so soaking is not required. Before use, spray the Glass Stone with water, or dampen with a clean wet cloth and begin sharpening (you sharpen on the ceramic side, not the glass). Use extremely light, even pressure and lead with the cutting edge. As with all water hones Shapton Glass Stones do wear concave with use and require periodic lapping (flattening).
