Regular price $59.00

Description

The Shinto saw rasp is the number one selling rasp in Japan. It is the one tool that every woodworker should have in their tool chest/workshop.

These rasps are made using multiple saw blades joined together in a diamond configuration. They are highly efficient at removing material such in soft woods, hard woods, soft metals and composite materials. With the diamond blade pattern making the rasp clog resistant.

They are also ideal for general shaping work as the tooth configuration will not tear out the grain. On the contrary, they cut the grain fast and effectively.

The Shinto Saw Rasp

We don't sell the Shinto Saw Rasp - it sells itself. An absolute tactile delight, it's the only tool you'll ever want to use for rough shaping of exterior profiles.

Extremely useful

The saw rasp is surprisingly useful. The rough side is sharp enough to remove material quickly. The fine side creates a smooth surface without tear outs even on edges and across end grain. I use it to finish surfaces just before sanding, and to create chamfers or round corners.

Life changing!

I love the Shinto rasps so much. I like to carve hard timbers to make little spoons and scoops. The Shinto rasp enables me to shape the back of the spoon bowl easily, avoiding splitting timbers and blunt knives. I loved the first one I bought so much that I quickly ordered the second, finer one. They are fabulous!

Love my Rasp Saws

After first buying the medium/coarse rasp saw and enjoying using it, I then bought the fine/medium. They have become my most favourite tools. I can strip off the bark and shape the wood of branches quite quickly to make items like bodhran tippers (for playing Irish frame drums). I am 66 and have some arthritis in my fingers and wrists. The rasp saw is so sharp I don't have to use much force or pressure, it doesn't clog up, and it doesn't make fine dust that gets into your eyes and nose. It is quiet. I can sit in the shade and not annoy anyone. It doesn't need power. I can take it camping. I love it!

SHINTO RASP: A Must have tool

The beauty about this rasp is that it not only can take off a large amount of material when using the course side, but it can do that in a tight right angle, or create a flat surface. I use circular motions when treating a display side of wood, start off with the course side, flip it over to the fine side, and you have no scratches at all. It is designed with gaps going through to each side, which allows the saw dust to just fall to the floor without build up. I've even found the tip to be of use when clearing out a cavity. Every wood worker should have one of these!

Shinto Saw Rasp

This item will sell itself.
It is just spectacular in operation. It is just so easy to file any soft item. I have not used it on mild steel and do not intend to. Other files are made for that purpose. But, filind wood and plastic I highly recommend them.

Japanese Rasp

I have been looking for a good quality rasp for some time. The two I purchased from Japanese Tools cut beautifully and leave a finish that needs only a minor attention with sanding. There is no clogging of the blades due to the ingenious manner in which the rasps are constructed. For free form shaping using a flat rasp these are the best I have used.

Well worth a try.

These Shinto Saw Rasps really work well. Fair price for a well made product. All I need now is one or two curved options. For those inside curved areas where a flat tool won't reach.
