Description

'Ryoba' is the Japanese word for double edge. The double sided Gikoh Ryoba pull Saw made by Kakuri lives up to its name. It's a double sided blade and features one side for ripping and the other side for crosscutting. The comfortable rattan handle features quick leaver action to change the replaceable blades.

You will not find a better designed handle on the market. The mechanism to hold the blade is unique in that it is streamlined to eliminate any change of the latch getting in the way of your material. Unlike some other saws on the market, the Kakuri Ryoba's Latch will always keep your blade straight and secure. The blade cuts easily and straight on both sides in many types of timber.

Back for another one!

Great saw. About to start on my second one. Using it for a variety of tasks including large tenons on a 19th century work bench.

Converted to pull saws

Love this saw, fully converted to Japanese pull saws. The ease of use and accuracy is a revelation. Have since acquired a flush saw. Will be increasing my saw collection over time.

Highly recommended

Bought one of these for my Dad and for my father in law. They are difficult people to buy for and both love them - my Dad now says it's his favourite tool!
So a great father's day gift!
Also the guys at JTA are fantastic - very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable.

240mm Gikoh Ryoba asw

Very well made and I love the protective cover with the hanging loop. The saw cuts very easily and leaves a very smooth surface, especially across the grain. The rip saw side is easy to use and cuts fast and smooth. I’ve had no trouble getting a straight cut. Much easier than with a western type push saw.

Should have bought one sooner

From the first use, it cut straight and easier than most saws I've used before.

very impressed with the saw. The cross cuts hardly require touchup and cuts so quickly.

Best saw I've ever used.

I was at first sceptical about all the good reviews surrounding Japanese pull saws. But when I tried this for the first time it was better than I could have ever imagined :)

Fantastic saw

I was given this saw as a present and I love it. It's light and easy to use, as an amateur woodworker I've found I cut straight and truest with this saw out of all of mine.

Great product

Bought this as a present for someone who’s been wanting one for a while. Surprisingly sturdy handle, the blade is also nicely flexible. Easy to assemble and comes with a plastic case for the blade. Comes nice and sharp, and visibly clean cuts! Would recommend for a first time pull saw

Glad you like the Gikoh as much as we do Rachel! May it give you many crisp cuts!

Best hand saw to date!!!!

Lovely fine cuts. Loving the ease of how smooth the cuts are absolutely fantastic

Glad it's working for you Joseph, we're very fond of the Gikoh and always good to know that it's making another person's shop time more enjoyable. Happy woodworking!

Will never use, let alone buy, a western style saw ever again

Probably the most efficient, accurate, precise wood cutting device I’ve ever held. It’s my very first Japanese saw, and I dare say it won’t be the last. It’s not the most expensive (far from it) on the market and I’m no fool, it’s probably not the absolute best either. As a self-taught hobbyist, I’m also far from being the best at woodworking. But what I’ve been able to achieve after only half a dozen practice runs would be unrealistic task using any western style tool.
Thanks guys
We’ll do business again

Good saw

Excellent cut. My first Japanese saw and I already prefer it over traditional western saws. It's probably the best saw I own and it's two in one with the cross cut edge and rip edge. Works well in soft wood and hardwood. Impressed.

Gikoh Ryoba Saw 240mm

Very impressed with the ripping blade, not so impressed with the cross cut blade. Having both is handy even if just for ripping because the finer set of the cross cut makes a good starting cut. Thought it would be useful having both blades potentially in play. I have another Japanese saw with multiple single blades and they work better for cross cutting. For the price thought it pretty good value.

Perfect Beginner's (and advanced) tool

Absolutely love it! My Ryoba is my favourite tool now.

Incredibly light and so easy to use, it feels like I'm cutting through butter, and the precision and finish of the cuts are AMAZING! I only wish I had bought this much earlier. I'm never going back to conventional western saws again!

I can't compare it to any other models or brands (it is my very first one ever), but the quality of this saw is impressive, and the handle is so light that at first I though it was potentially a problem (it felt almost like a kid's toy). However as I used it for the very first time all my concerns disappeared and I fell instantly in love with it.
I don't even feel the need to sand my pieces after cutting them (of course I still do, but sometimes it is almost more out of the habit than the absolute need - to be honest).
On top of it all it disassembles in one second and the saw goes back into its protective case, and it fits in a very small drawer in my living room! I could not go back to not having it!
I'd give it 20 stars if possible!!!!!

Brilliant smooth cuts

Cuts quickly in plywood and gives a great edge, no sanding required for cleanup. Takes some practice to get a square edge, but easy to cut in a straight line and feels much more natural than a push saw

Replace your Ryoba blades regularly

This Ryoba is top notch. Super versatile and is my preferred saw for resawing with minimal waste.
Ryobas of this kind are intended to have the blades replaced regularly if you use it frequently and for heavy work like resawing Aussie timbers. Replacing the blade makes the saw work like new again and you ask yourself why you didn't do it sooner.
The old blade is still useful, as a back up or to cut it up for shop made scrapers or scratch stock.
Replacement blades are cheap, and Japanese Tools were quick with postage. Five stars

Very clean cuts

I love this saw. It has a coarse cut blade on one side and a fine cut on the other. The cuts are so clean they barely need any sanding to finish the job. I highly recommend this saw
