Japanese Wooden Nails - Middle 180 Pieces

Regular price $72.00

Description

These Japanese Wooden Nails can be used for joining timber together instead of metal fastenings. They can be used on rebates and lap joints, they can also be used for decorative contrasts in different coloured timbers. Perfect for making musical Instruments and for Luthier as the timber nails will not affect the resonance of the instrument. The wooden nails are also ideal for restoring old furniture.

Each tapered drill bit is perfectly matched to a particular sized wooden nail, this allows the surface area of the hole and nail to be completely and perfectly in contact. The small tolerance of this contact allows a great amount of pressure to be applied to the job.

Description:

  • 5.0mm Middle Tapered wooden nails 180 pcs (to suit Middle Tapered drill bit 5.0mm)
  • 60mm long, 2.5mm diameter at the end and 5mm diameter at the largest point
  • Timber: Beech

Japanese Wooden Nails

I recently purchased several sizes of these wooden beech nails. It’s fun using them a bit different from nails & screws & just as effective.
I have finished making a traditional Japanese toolbox with them.

Using Japanese Wooden Nails in Chairmaking

These nails are great for "skew nailing" through a mortise and tennon joint. The order I do this is: glue the joint, clamp, drill the hole for the nail, apply glue to the nail (not the hole!), gently tap the nail to refusal into the hole. When the glue is set: remove the clamps and carfully cut the nail off with either a Japanese one sided saw or a sharp knife then gently sand the nail to ensure that it is flush with the chair. I prefer to be able to see the nail when the chair is completed because it tells the story of how the chair was made. I think these nails give better added support than dowels.

Great Product

Love these little nails, they are made very well and work great. A pleasure to deal with and good service provided. They even refunded some of the postage for me after I bought items from both businesses and had them posted to me in the same parcel.

Japanese Wooden Nails - size Middle

Excellent product and easy to use. I have found many uses, other than my original project, for them, and am extremely pleased with this system.

Great product

I’ve been using wooden nails for years and they have become unavailable at all my local stores. I was really happy to find them here and was very pleased with the quick response and great communication.

What a Godsend.

I ordered middle sized and later large size wooden nails, with their appropriate drill bits.
I gather timber from wherever I can find it and thickness it to get brand new timber.
I then make an assortment of different things from small furniture, boxes, letterboxes, and bird palaces.
I really dislike using nails or screws, so using wooden nails is a real answer for me.
I have found using them a better alternative than other fixings.

Wooden Nails

I am making Japanese design wooden bokes. These nails are not only "decorative" in the box making but work beautifully. Highly recommended
