Yoshiharu Hamono Japanese Kiridashi Brass Knife Penanto

Regular price $14.00
Handed

Description

This Japanese kiridashi knife excels at many things. It can be used for woodworking, leatherwork, and paper crafts, and can also be used as a general utility knife. Thanks to its very slim profile and ultra sharp tip, it can make precision cuts.

The knife blade is made of carbon steel, and the grip and sheath are made of brass. The sheath and grip are simply a sheet of brass folded and crimped on one edge, and the blade fits snugly in the sheath.

The overall feel of the knife extremely slim and compact. Stamped on one side is the phrase "Pen an to" or "pennant". The maker of the Pen an to considers it a "Championship" worthy knife, thus the word "pennant".

The company Yoshiharu Hamono has been in business for over 60 years, and is currently run by its 4th generation family members. The family has a history of crafting tools dating back over 100 years.

Overall length: 128mm

Blade length: 35mm

Razor sharp.

Such a simple thin little knife, but razor sharp and hasn't left my pocket since it arrived. Perfect for those small jobs that seem to pop up hourly from opening packages to trimming the casing off electrical wire. Call me old fashioned but the brass "case/handle" suits this type of knife perfectly.

Lightweight and Cool

A very useful little pocket-sized item which gets used at least once per day. Extremely sharp.

Handy, sharp, cheap

A handy little knife for trimming and marking. Not the most comfortable in hand, but the price, sharpness and utility easily make up for that.

Kiridashi marking knife

I've used the right hand marking knife for over 2 years now. It's a beautifully light, well made knife with a sleek cover to allow safe storage. The wide blade acts as a handy datum register when scoring timber against other profiles.

Marking knives

These inexpensive left and right marking knives do what they are supposed to do, cut sharp lines across grain up against a straight edge. The thin handles take some getting used to but feel comfortable in use.

Hi Paul,Glad to hear that our knives are getting a work out in your shop and performing to your expectations. If you have a lot of marking out to do and the thin handles don't suit, we have a few other options that might fit your hand better. May your knife lines be fine and your kerfs straight,The JTA Team

Marking Knives Set - Kiridashi Left & Right hand bevels

Used on a project recently, found it to be very accurate, easy to use and excellent value for a precision measuring and marking out tool. Worth every cent and it's stainless steel too ! It's now one of my favorite tools.

Good and handy marking tool.

Out of box sharpness was acceptable but could be much better given its a simple chisel grind. Did the job well even with the stock edge, likely to perform better once sharpened. Have not used it enough to gauge edge retention or how well it takes an edge from sharpening.

Yes the knife though the slim handle is less easy to hold than a larger wooden one, is still a good product and does the job.

Good

Been making rifle stocks by hand and use the smoothing planes for all shaping great tools and they take a long time to dull the edge. Great produce and great service from Japanese tools.
