At JTA we are proud of our order turnaround times and work hard to ensure the best possible service.

We are NOT a drop-shipping company and hold all of our stock in Sydney. We dispatch every weekday, and we are usually able to dispatch orders received before 12pm on the same day. If you urgently require your purchase we suggest that you select express shipping at checkout to ensure we prioritise your parcel.

Shipping Charges:

We have revised our logistics systems to offer the best possible postage price to our customers. All prices are in $AUD.

Within Australia:

Regular Post: $12.50, tracking number emailed to you at dispatch

Express Post: $19.50, tracking number emailed to you at dispatch

Within New Zealand:

We are now able to offer our New Zealand customers $17 flat-rate shipping on orders under 2kg.  For orders heavier than 2kg the following rates apply:

<2kg: $17

3kg: $27

4kg: $32

5kg: $35

Express Courier International:

Flat Rate - AU$35 on orders up to 2kg (4.4lbs)

For orders over this weight:

<4kg: $67

<5kg: $74

For orders over 5kg in weight, please email us at info@japanesetools.com.au

Prices for all other international orders are calculated at checkout according to Australia Post’s standard rates.

Please be aware some international countries may charge additional taxes when your order goes through customs. Prices on the JTA website do not include these charges and it is the customer's responsibility to cover this.

Delivery Times inside Australia:

These are estimates only. All orders are sent with a tracking code via our shipping app Shippit, and we recommend you use this to check on your order's progress.

From the date of dispatch we expect the following delivery times within Australia:

Regular Post: Within 3-5 business days (metro areas) or 4-8 business days (rural areas)

Express Post: 1-2 business days (metro areas) or 2-4 business days (rural areas)

Plastic-free Policy:

Japanese Tools Australia is an environmentally conscious company and we endeavour to eliminate plastics in as many parts of our business as possible. Your purchase will be shipped in recyclable non-plastic materials, and we re-use cardboard and paper wherever possible in our shipping process.

Exceptions to plastic-free policy:

Unfortunately, we are required to dispatch some express items in pre-paid satchels and in such circumstances we have no choice but to use a plastic satchel. Please keep in mind these satchels are 100% recyclable. Our suppliers also use plastic in their packaging of some products, and we do not remove these protective measures before shipping. We are considering strategies to eliminate these two remaining sources of plastic in our shipping process. As many of our items are hand-made, they do not arrive to us or to you with extraneous packaging, though this is not the case for all of our products.

Breakage in shipping policy:

We pack our shipments in specialised materials to ensure that our customers find them in the same condition that we send them. If you receive your products in a damaged condition, please email info@japanesetools.com.au with your order number and photos of the condition of the products within a week of collection. If an item is deemed to have been damaged in transit we will replace it with like kind at no extra shipping cost to the customer.

If you are unhappy with the condition of your product and it has not been damaged in transit, please refer to our returns and exchanges policy.

Description

Within moments of arriving at the JTA workshop, being whipped out of it's case and put to work on some carving blanks, we knew this knife was a special.

This is what happens when a top-class Japanese knife maker studies the design hallmarks of European carving knives, fuses it with their unique HSS-lamination methods and pops it all on a thick handle and in a handy leather pouch with a blade guard.

For western carvers, this knife will feel approachable and familiar. If a sloyd knife embarked on an extended pilgrimage through Japan, reflecting, fasting and philosophising as it went, we think it would return to Scandinavia looking something like this - a little slimmer in the handle, with a light and functional leather case, and a blade that has been shortened, refined and sharpened to within an inch of it's life with a HSS cutting edge.

That is the key here; the edge. Finding a happy medium between a knife that can take a bevel fine enough for fine finishing cuts while being rugged enough to waste and rough out is no mean feat, and in this little double bevelled beauty we think it may have just been perfected.

For a few years now the 6mm double bevel carving knife has been our go-to carving blade, however, we now expect this to be our most recommended general whittling knife for the foreseeable future.

Dimensions

Blade: L35mm x W6mm

Handle length: 130mm
