Our spoon gouges are forged by Michihamono with the highest quality laminated blue paper steel edges.
These tools are used in similar applications to European hook knives - that is, for excavating bowls and hollows. They can used out the back of the hand with the arms braced against the body for close control and inspection of the work, or on a bench top with a bench hook or stop block.
We find that a buff on a strop is sufficient to sharpen up these superlative tools and they can be kept ready to work with regular but light work.
The handles are made of white oak and nestle nicely in the hand.
