This 10-piece chisel set is hand-forged in Niigata prefecture.
"Sumi‑nagashi" refers to the Damascus steel laminations that resembles traditional Japanese paper marbling - a technique that gives the metal a beautiful, swirling pattern
These chisels are fashioned from blue steel (Aogami #2) edges laminated with a folded Damascus backing. The result is a blade that holds an exceptionally sharp edge while remaining shock-resistant. Blue paper steel edges are rugged.
These chisels have been shaped with a high central ridge along the head sloping down to the sides. This is what defines these chisels as a "Shinogi" style and makes them appropriate for dovetails and other joinery. Thanks to it's tough blue paper steel edges, this particular set will be comfortable pulling double duty around the shop as an all-rounder.
The handles are made from red oak and fit comfortably in the hand during use. All hoops have been set at the factory, taking these tools one step closer to
work readiness.
This comprehensive set contains 3mm, 6mm, 9mm, 12mm, 15mm, 18mm, 24mm, 30mm, 36mm and 42mm chisels and ships in a beautiful bespoke hand-calligraphied Paulownia box.
As with all new Japanese chisels, these beauties will benefit from tuning and honing before use in order to unlock their full potential.
