Description
We are proud to add Tasai-san's tsuchime (hammered) finish Wakizashi to our range of tools made by the master Sanjo smith.
Subtly longer and heftier than Tasai's bench models, this is a tool designed for striking. It's double-hollow back allows it to be referenced on joinery of a variety of sizes. Our current stock have bevels ground to 28 degrees, and Tasai's special formulation of blue paper steel allows it to take a tough yet razor sharp edge.
To achieve this aesthetic, the top and neck of the of the chisel have been hammered methodically to create indents in their surface. The chisel is then etched to achieve the black colour, and the high points ground off to create the silver patterns. The beveled shoulders of the top of the chisel have been file finished and remain black.
A white oak handle (picture wrapped in a protective shrink wrap) and faceted black hoop have been used to finish off this tool. The hoop has been pre-fit and the top of the timber handle mushroomed over it at the factory.
Finally, this beautiful example of Tasai's dedication to his craft arrives in it's own custom made leather sheath with the Tasai maker's mark embossed on the name plate. It features press stud closure to keep the chisel securely inside the sheath and a belt loop.
