Description

The Shinto saw rasp is the number one selling rasp in Japan. It is the one tool that every woodworker should have in their tool chest/workshop.

These rasps are made using multiple saw blades joined together in a diamond configuration. They are highly efficient at removing material such in soft woods, hard woods, soft metals and composite materials. With the diamond blade pattern making the rasp clog resistant.

They are also ideal for general shaping work as the tooth configuration will not tear out the grain. On the contrary, they cut the grain fast and effectively.

Blade length: 200mm | Overall length: 340mm

Teeth size: Fine-Medium 24 TPI | Coarse 10 TPI

Handle - Elastomer Rubber

Awesome tool

This rasp is so easy to use. I got the 250mm med/course for removing wood and shaping the back of spoon bowls. It's the missing link in my spoon carving kit! I used it on the weekend and it was the perfect tool for the job! Everything I've bought from JTA so far has been high quality and useful.

Excellent

Really useful rasps / files - I'm using them in making stringed instruments. Japanese Tools were, as usual, a pleasure to deal with.

One of the best hand tools I've ever bought!

It exceeded my expectations. I bought it to shape cork used on the rails of a surfboard. The cork is not of the highest quality so all other tools just tore it apart. The shinto saw rasp removes the cork quickly, cleanly and accurately. I'll be checking the website for more Japanese hand tools to add to my workshop. Might I add, its construction is top notch and the finish is superb!

Excellent Rasp

This tool is exceptional. Having open spaces between the cutting blades means it does not clog up at all. It is easy to use and very efficient, making the task at hand so much more of a pleasure. I highly recommend these rasps.

Great rasp

I bought a French made 11/13 Liogier Hand-stitched Sapphire coated double handled rasp about 10 years ago. Its brilliant and fast cutting but on bigger jobs I've always wanted something to better 'hog out" shapes then finish with my Liogier. Your rasp is perfect. I should have bought one years ago. Itll get plenty of use shaping guitar boies and necks. Worth every cent.

Awesome Rasp

I saw Paul Sellers use this on a number of projects and given my existing rasp is, well, ordinary I thought I would give it a go.
I couldn't be happier with the result; fast, clean and completely responsive. The coarse and finer faces work very well in tandem which has made life much easier on the projects so far. Very happy.

Shinto Saw Rasp

This is an amazing tool. The Coarse side moves material incredibly quickly, even in hard native woods. The fine side is great for refining a shape, and leaves very little clean up. Overall, this is a great tool.

A briliant tool

I was very impressed ran it over some pine and merbau performs exactly as claimed maybe better wish I had thought of it. If you only buy one rasp make it the Saw Rasp can not wait for the coarse one to arrive

Shinto Saw Rasp

I have just started spoon carving and the med/fine saw rasp is a great addition to my tools, particularly for a beginner, it tidies up a lot of minor mistakes and as nicely weighted. The smaller one would probably have been more useful for small woodwork though. I am very happy with it. It will come in useful for many small jobs, and is particularly good for rough timber with bark still on it.

Shinto Saw Rasp

Hogs off softwood and hardwood very fast and clean. Tested on pine and merbau stock. New users must take extra care in using this rasp as it has potential to cause injury if not used carefully. I highly recommend wearing leather gloves with your off-hand. Thanks Japanese Tools Australia for making such a highly sought after Japanese Tool available on our shores. Will be buying more in the future!

We don't sell the Shinto Saw Rasp - it sells itself. An absolute tactile delight, it's the only tool you'll ever want to use for rough shaping of exterior profiles.
