Description

This sumitsubo (carpenter's ink line) has been modeled after the shamisen, a traditional Japanese stringed instrument. Carved from solid zelkova, it's wheel will need to have string wound on by it's new owner, a pin attached, and cotton wadding placed in the well before adding ink and getting down to work.

Traditionally, chips from a block of sumi ink are crushed in the well with water to produce the marking ink. Unfortunately, we do not currently sell this type of ink, but we have had good results with Shinwa's liquid inks.

This sumitsubo does ship with a complimentary sumisashi, which is a bamboo tool that has been cut to have one end used as a sharp beveled pen, and the other used as a writing tool. We encourage you to modify your sumisashi with a sharp knife in order to achieve optimum results.
