We have been enchanted by this mushroom form since Hape Kiddle taught this netsuke as a class in 2018.
For those looking to make their own funghi, we have rough-cut these blanks from Huon pine and linished the heads round. Since the bulk waste has been removed, it is now up to you to pull out your favourite knife and perfect the form!
We have enjoyed adding gills using fine u-gouges, and Hape's students also added an ant, but you can go where your imagination takes you!

I was impressed with the size of the blank. I bought two; one for me, one for my husband. We both had plenty of 'blank canvas' to make very different and unique mushrooms. Definitely recommend!
I thoroughly enjoyed the exercise, a bit of a challenge in my first attempt at wood carving. Great to have a piece of Huon pine to start on.
Finished with Livos clear oil for the stalk and Livos Walnut for the top.
