The #1000 Cerax Water stone is perfectly suited to the beginning of the sharpening process where the blade is dulled but in good condition and heavy work is not required on the bevel. It is also suitable for beginning the sharpening process of a new blade, as long as the blade profile is close to the desired shape. It leaves a slightly cloudy finish, but the slurry of the #1000 stone can be worked on a piece of wood to act like a strop, which raises the finish to a good polish.
The #1000 Cerax Water stone by Suehiro Niigata Japan is renowned for its fast cutting surface and its longevity. Not only is it Europe's best selling water stone, it also has a very solid reputation in Japan and the rest of the world. Widely used across the woodworking and culinary professions; these stones are made from slow-wearing ceramic particles which act as the perfect abrasive for high carbon steel and tool steel alloy such as Vanadium and Chromium.

This is another outstanding Cerax stone, fantastic for dull or slightly damaged edges and used in conjunction with the Cerax 1000 & 5000 produces a fantastic result every time.

I've been looking for some time for a replacement for my old King 320 grit waterstone. The Cerax had good reviews and I can see why. The stone performs very well considering it's price. The storage box doubles as a secure work base and bath for the initial soaking. Very clever design. JTA prices are very competitive and their service is excellent. I purchased the set for sharpening the schools chisels and planes. I am very impressed with the quality of these stones for sharpening.
Ended up with incredibly sharp chisels. I had two in bad shape so using the 800 to try to improve e them was a bit of mistake, should have used a grinding wheel first to get the chips out. Great stones tho. Highly recommend getting a glass plate and sanding paper to

Totally in awe of the customer service...slight mix up with the order and fixed in a blink of an eye. The quality of the waterstone is apparent from when first you unwrap them. Now what to buy next???
This Stone is a Pleasure to use , it is a fast stone and loads up nicely giving a nice slurry to help with the sharpening process.
Might be on the soft side but to an advantage with the sharpening and feedback this 1000 gives .

The stone works very well. It’s cut fast as #320 should do. Parcel was delivered in two days, which was great. Previously I got the #3000 stone of the same make and it is also works perfectly. These stones are not required Nagura stones as they are easy releasing grain and slur start to form in just several strokes. The Cerax stones are not tolerate the excess of pressure applied on your tools/knives as they would “dish” out, but with reasonable pressure they work fantastic.
Prompt and trouble free delivery. Product well packaged and entirely as described; it is well designed, very tactile and a joy to use.
