We have out together the Complete Sharpening Kit to help people discover the benefits of using Japanese water stones. This kit is built around your choice of Cerax combination stone, and includes our simple and effective glass lapping plate, two sheets of adhesive sandpaper and a bottle of camellia oil.
This allows the user to keep their water stone flat and true, and protect the edge of their freshly honed blades to prevent corrosion. We leave the stone choice to you - the 1000/3000 combination stone will produce a sharp edge with minimal fuss, while the 1000/6000 stone will polish that edge to a finely honed finish, though requiring more time on the stone.
Please note that the camellia oil should never be introduced to the stone or the blade during the sharpening process - only oil the blade once all sharpening has been completed.

Love that JTA stock a plant-based option, rather than a petro-chemical based oil. I use it for everything, hedge shears, secateurs, the clippers I use on the dog!
Bought a bottle of the Camelia oil to lubricate the secateurs that my SO absolutely loves. They do that job well but the real win has been using this oil to lubricate my electric shaver. In hindsight it’s kinda obvious that having a plant based oil on your face will be preferable to machine oil!
Fantastic. I need super honed blades for my bushcraft hobby - slicing through wood to create primitive tools. This stone does the trick for sharpening my knife. Thanks!
I use it on straight razor blades (carbon steel), on tools like knives, planes, anything with a steel blade for a protective film between uses. Highly recommend
Using the stone to sharpen chisels. The results are dangerously sharp - my thumb and A&E nurse can attest to that!
I use this for my swords and it is a nice clean oil that works well. Better than choji oil in my experience
Have used the camellia oil on my Ouchi bench chisel set. Have had them for about 29 years. They had some very faint surface oxidation. The camellia oil has dealt with the rust and turned it into an inert black spot.
Only use it once so far but very happy with the way it performed.

As a first-timer to Japanese water stone sharpening, this Cerax combination stone has been a perfect starting place and ice been able to get an amazing edge on all of my knives, with a little help from the sharpening tips on the website. Firstly, I am new to waterstones. However, I bought a #320 and the #1000/#3000 and #1000/#6000 Ceraxes for what I felt was a complete sharpening package with a double up on the #1000 as I felt this would get the most use. I was not disappointed.
The #1000 does a great job of ensuring a razor sharp edge, with the #3000 providing a fine honed/polished for all knife needs.
