1/3 Sheet Glass Plate - 220 x 100 x 10mm

Description

These flat, untempered glass plates measure 220mm x 100mm x 10mm and have beveled edges for an extended lifespan. When paired with adhesive-backed abrasives, they are a quick and cost-effective way of flattening dry Japanese water stones. Using flat stones allows the woodworker to flatten the backs of their blades, as well as produce evenly sharpened bevels.

Attaching abrasive sandpaper to the plate also allows the user to regrind the bevels of chisels, plane blades and knives where excessive wear, rusting or chipping has occurred. The abrasive sheets can be used wet or dry and are of the same width as the glass plate to maximise usage of the sheet.

I have only had a chance to use this plate once as a flattening stone on the 300 side and a sharpening stone on the 1000 side . Very responsive both sides i must admit . The #300 side i will have to give further try as an initial bevel/ repair blade with but i think this side so far it will be used as a flattening stone though do intend to purchase one specifically for that purpose a little bit wider. The #1000 side i am sure will get more use in the 1000 grit area for knife sharpening , found its fast and feedback is good.

What with it being the end of the working year and Christmas almost upon us I haven't as yet had time to test its flatness yet alone bring it into use. As its slightly smaller than my old plate, I will need to make a new holding frame before it can be brought into use; maybe I will have time to do this in January. Until I can actually test it out I can't in all honesty review the product, therefore there is no alternative to a one star rating. This also applies to the other products I purchased at the same time.

Have hardly used it so far. The 1000 side brought up a nice fine edge on a carving knife but seemed softer than I expected but there again I'm not used to them.
