When all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail. When you own a FitGear, everything needs to be measured. Everything!
We think these are it. The FitGear tapes are made by Shinwa to JIS (Japanese Industrial Standards) specifications, and it's hard to know where to start.
The FitGear housing has not a single straight line or hard edge. It nestles in the hand beautifully, and the tightly wound tape keeps it small but with a nice weight.
The tape itself is 25mm-wide carbon steel with a white baked finish and protective nylon coating. This makes it scratch resistant and will give a standout of 2.2 to 2.4 metres.
The faces are easy to read with large whole digits and every 10cm increment picked out in red. The reverse side of the tape reads vertically. The lock engages well and holds tight. The return mechanism is fast without being violent.

As a builder I used this onsite everyday for a month. I liked the following:
Hook was nice and deep, light weight, fits great in the hand, elevation numbers on the back, easy to read, jis standard, clips well onto belt or pouch.
Dislikes: lock broke a week in, numbers began to rub off on front of tape, stand out of only about 2m, coil return would sometimes bind needing to pull it out further before retracting.
Very similar to a Lufkin in tape feel and operation.
Overall it's not a great site tape, a little light weight for my purposes but makes an excellent shop tape where stand out and roughness are not needed.
