Abrasive Carving Class

Get ready to roll up your sleeves and dive into the art of Abrasive Wood Carving in this full-day class. Students will be taught the techniques and tooling required to shape and create forms in very hard Australian timbers.

Your guide on the day is Greg Hehir of Melbourne Carving School, owner of Carving and Turning Timber Sales, who has an in-depth knowledge of carving techniques, tools and timbers.

Through his approachable teaching style, Greg shares the art of working with your hands, and creating something truly unique.  From roughing out, to shaping and finishing, students will be taught all the skills required to gain an understanding of working in timbers such as Gidgee, Belah, Boonaree, Nelia and Buloke.

Previous basic carving experience is ideal, but Greg will teach you everything you need to know specifcially about Abrasive Carving. By the end of the workshop, you’ll walk away with a sculpture and new carving skills. 

All materials and tools are supplied for the duration of the class.
