Gyokucho, also known as Razorsaw, was founded on 3 March 1969 in Miki, Hyōgo, the centre of Japan's hand-tool industry. The company developed the replaceable-blade Japanese saw, which changed how carpenters work: instead of sending a dull saw away for sharpening, you simply fit a fresh blade.
The business became a company in 1972, set up its sales arm Gyokucho Sangyo in 1975, and moved into its current Miki headquarters in 1981. In 2009 it opened its Miki Kajiya-mura division, keeping traditional saw-making skills alive alongside modern production.
Gyokucho makes a wide range of pull saws, from ryoba and dozuki to flush-cut and folding saws. Their thin blades and sharp, hardened teeth cut fast and clean, and the company remains a favourite of Japanese carpenters and woodworkers worldwide.
Gyokucho Retractable Razorsaw
Gyokucho Retractable Razorsaw
Just like your traditional Gyokucho Razorsaw, this saw has the same high quality Japanese blade, but with a practical, useful and versatile retractable design.
The 80mm blade fully retracts into the handle when not in use, not only protecting it from damage but lets you carry the saw in a tool belt or pocket to keep it close at hand or in a toolbox. A good size for model making or other detail work.
The saw comes already fitted with a General wood work blade (S-1160), with three other interchangeable options available. Live wood blade (S-1161), Plastic/cardboard blade (S-1162), Metal blade (S-1163)
