Handmade Drawknife

$285.00

Description

At JTA, it is a semi-regular occurrence that we are forced to discontinue a tool due to the retirement of the blacksmith that makes them.

Imagine our joy, then, to be able to work with a young smith who has chosen to enter the craft, looking for interesting and challenging tools to establish their name with.

Enter Zero-san, who is the first smith to graduate from Sanjo blacksmith dojo's teaching program.

We have commissioned Zero-san to make one of our most requested, but until now unavailable, tools - the drawknife. And what a gorgeous job he has done on it!

Made entirely from SK5 steel, Zero-san has hammered the top face of the knife to give it the necessary curve both along the blade edge and from front to back.

The front and back of the bevel have been sharpened and brought to a high polish. The white oak handles are simple and comfortable, and have been riveted on for longevity. This thing absolutely glides through timber and is an absolute pleasure to use.

Overall Width: 375mm
Cutting Edge Width: 100mm
Distance from Cutting Edge to Rear of Tool: 50mm

Great tool. But…

This is a fantastic piece of kit. Great tool, sharp and a beautiful thing to use… but. There’s no providence with it. No makers tag, no stamp on the blade. Great story with the new blade smith but can you back it up?

Best drawknive ever. You won't find anything comparable in Australia

Bought this as a Christmas gift for my husband. This has to be one of the most beautiful woodworking tools I have ever seen, and it's a tool my husband didn't want to use as first because it was just so gorgeous! The mirror shine on the blade is perfect, and arrived extremely sharp. He has used it a few times now and it works like a charm. It's amazing! I had to hide the receipt and packaging so I could buy him more woodworking tools from this site lol. Thank you 👌
