Description

Former Mythbuster Adam Savage said it best - "Sharpening is like coffee - the signal to noise ratio ... is almost one."

He is right, so JTA is here to dial in the signal and tune out the noise.

Each of these three hour evening sessions will focus on one particular type of tool - either carving tools, chisels, planes or kitchen knives - running from 6.30pm to 9.30pm on Wednesday evenings in June at the JTA workshop - 29 Production Ave, Kogarah.

Our focus will be on the Japanese patterns of these tools, though the core principles and lessons apply to Western variants as well.

To get the most out of this session, we suggest that you bring your own tools - with a focus on the ones that will benefit most from tuning, fettling and sharpening. For those who prefer to purchase a new tool to set up, this will also be an option on the night.

Each class will consist of about half an hour of discussion around the sharpening process, the anatomy of the tool and the outcome we are aiming for. The remainder of the class will have students on the stones practicing their sharpening under our tutelage. We aim for you to finish the night with tools that are cutting and working beautifully.

We look forward to seeing you for a relaxed evening of sharp edges and bad jokes.

Chisel Sharpening

Very informative hands on class with loads of tips tricks and insights. Small class size means everyone get plenty of attention and help when needed. Mitch is an excellent teacher. Highly recommended

Silly me

Attended the chisel sharpening class which was very helpful and informative. Alas, I left my chisels behind - have tried getting them back however I may have to make another trip to Sydney to retrieve them.
