If you urgently require your purchase we suggest that you select express shipping at checkout to ensure we prioritise your parcel.

Express Post: $16.50, tracking number emailed to you at dispatch

Prices for all other international orders are calculated at checkout according to Australia Post’s standard rates.

Please be aware some international countries may charge additional taxes when your order goes through customs. Prices on the JTA website do not include these charges and it is the customer's responsibility to cover this.

Delivery Times inside Australia:

These are estimates only. All orders are sent with a tracking code via our shipping app Shippit, and we recommend you use this to check on your order's progress.

From the date of dispatch we expect the following delivery times within Australia:

Regular Post: Within 3-5 business days (metro areas) or 4-8 business days (rural areas)

Express Post: 1-2 business days (metro areas) or 2-4 business days (rural areas)

Plastic-free Policy:

Japanese Tools Australia is an environmentally conscious company and we endeavour to eliminate plastics in as many parts of our business as possible. Your purchase will be shipped in recyclable non-plastic materials, and we re-use cardboard and paper wherever possible in our shipping process.

Exceptions to plastic-free policy:

Unfortunately, we are required to dispatch some express items in pre-paid satchels and in such circumstances we have no choice but to use a plastic satchel. Please keep in mind these satchels are 100% recyclable. Our suppliers also use plastic in their packaging of some products, and we do not remove these protective measures before shipping. We are considering strategies to eliminate these two remaining sources of plastic in our shipping process. As many of our items are hand-made, they do not arrive to us or to you with extraneous packaging, though this is not the case for all of our products.

Breakage in shipping policy:

We pack our shipments in specialised materials to ensure that our customers find them in the same condition that we send them. If you receive your products in a damaged condition, please email info@japanesetools.com.au with your order number and photos of the condition of the products within a week of collection. If an item is deemed to have been damaged in transit we will replace it with like kind at no extra shipping cost to the customer.

If you are unhappy with the condition of your product and it has not been damaged in transit, please refer to our returns and exchanges policy.

Description

Woodworking Joinery by Hand is a ground-breaking woodworking book that introduces a new twist on the traditional hand-cut methods of joint making. With author Toyohisa Sugita's unique method of guiding and controlling the saw blade using jigs and magnetic sheets, even a complete beginner can learn advanced joint-making techniques with hand tools alone. Making it easy to produce straight and square cuts, this pioneering technique is a game-changer for producing high-precision, beautifully made wooden joints.

Japanese-style saws only cut when pulled towards the body, allowing them to be made of thinner-grade metal and therefore cutting a finer, more precise line than more conventional western-style saws. This book won't just appeal to beginners, but also more experienced woodworkers who want to brush up on their sawing skills. Through the construction of a variety of different types of frames, boxes, guides and jigs, with clear progression through levels of difficulty, you will learn all the skills you'll need, from basic frame construction to more challenging and intricate joints.

Quiet and safe, these techniques use hand tools and bespoke jigs for a peaceful approach to the craft, making it enjoyable and sociable. Including detailed step-by-step instructions, illustrations, tip and tricks, you'll find everything you need to get started. Joints featured: half lap joint, splined mitre joint, mitred lap joint, rabbet joint, box joint, mortise and tenon joint, dovetail joint and more.

At the age of 28, Toyohisa Sugita began building his own 28ft (9m) cruising yacht. It took five and a half years to complete and launch. This experience was the starting point for his woodworking career. Since then, he has developed, manufactured and sold woodworking products; produced and sold woodworking videos and is currently a Lie-Nielsen distributor. He is the author of Super Epoch-making Woodworking Techniques (Studio Tuck Creative) and All About Sugita-style Sawing Wood (Ohm-sha), which advocates 'Sugita-style' sawing, meaning a precision woodworking technique that requires almost no power tools. Toyohisa lives in Tokyo, Japan.
