In this two day workshop you will build your own Japanese plane. We will supply a premium aogami (blue paper steel) blade and chipbreaker, and under the attentive instruction of three talented Japanese woodworkers, you will fashion a block for it and learn how to bring it to a razor edge.

This is a fantastic opportunity to have the mysteries of the kanna laid bare before you by teachers who make their living from this simple yet highly refined tool.

All tools and materials are included in the course fee, and lunch is supplied on both days.

Please Read Our Cancellation Policy

A huge part of designing our showroom - JTA HQ in Kogarah, was with the intention to create a beautiful workshop space. And over the years we have been lucky enough to host some incredibly talented local and international teachers.

Classes are often limited in number, meaning they do often sell out quickly. We encourage you to leave your email for an automated notification if any additional spaces become available or please feel free to contact us directly on info@japanesetools.com.au.

We understand circumstances sometimes change and if you need to cancel a booked spot we will offer a no questions asked refund 14 days prior to the class date. Any time closer to the class date, we will have to fill the spot first before offering a refund.

If you simply forget the class date or are a no show on the day, we cannot offer a refund or credit.

As we are hosting the classes for our teachers – Tools Bucks cannot be used towards the classes, and although some teachers may offer a discount on multi-day courses, this is not a general rule across all classes.

We can't wait to welcome you into our space to learn a new skill and craft. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us on 02)95273870.

Feedback on JTA Classes

Enrolled in the class and I must admit I was a bit apprehensive to attend because I am a total novice.

Well the team welcomed me and made me feel very comfortable right through the day.

It was so interesting to see talented artisans working with their hands and giving guidance and insight to this wonderful art. It is an art!

All the tools provided were items from JTA. All beautiful functional pieces.

All the girls and guys at the course really turned out some great pieces.
It goes to prove that when you have good guidance and patient, understanding teachers, difficult tasks can be achieved.

THANKS for a fantastic day.
