Description
These Watoji Japanese book bound Notepads are handmade by artist Furmie Matsumoto of Yuzuan Studio. Whose philosophy is to pay special attention to the paper-making method and raw materials used. Like the long established practice of paper artistans, Yuzan Studios use only locally grown plants and materials for their washi. This paper is produced in Ogawa region in Northwest of Tokyo, from an industry dating back to the 8th century.
The cover is made of hand dyed with navy blue coloured momigami kyosei-shi, which means 'crumpled and strengthened' Washi coated with Arum root paste. This is a a traditional and nature-friendly method for reinforcement and water-resistant
