Metal clamps arrived to Japan sometime in the early 20th Century, probably from the West.

Clamps were adapted in Japan for holding small, fine work and are generally used to hold two pieces of a project together during marking and cutting. We have also found them to be ideal during the glue-up of small boxes and frames, and when working with our wooden nails.
