Get ready to roll up your sleeves and dive into the art of wood carving in this beginner- friendly workshop! Over 3.5 hours, you’ll learn to carve your very own Bird sculpture using simple hand tools and beautiful, natural wood.
Your guide in this journey will be Rachel Shaw, a South Coast-based woodcarver with a passion for blending traditional techniques with modern style. Specializing in crafting beautiful, functional pieces like spoons, butter knives, pickle forks, and small dishes, Rachel transforms salvaged and reclaimed wood into one-of-a-kind creations.
Through her mindful and approachable teaching style, Rachel shares the timeless art of woodcarving in her workshops, helping others discover the joy of slowing down, working with their hands, and creating something truly unique.
No experience? No problem! Rachel will teach you everything you need to know, from shaping your designs to refining, sanding, and finishing your utensils. By the end of the workshop, you’ll walk away with a sweet little bird sculpture, new carving skills, and a sense of calm and creativity.

What to wear:
- Closed in shoes

JTA Class Cancellation Policy
A huge part of designing our showroom - JTA HQ in Kogarah, was with the intention to create a beautiful workshop space. And over the years we have been lucky enough to host some incredibly talented local and international teachers.
Classes are often limited in number, meaning they do often sell out quickly. We encourage you to leave your email for an automated notification if any additional spaces become available or please feel free to contact us directly on info@japanesetools.com.au.
We understand circumstances sometimes change and if you need to cancel a booked spot we will offer a no questions asked refund 14 days prior to the class date. Any time closer to the class date, we will have to fill the spot first before offering a refund.
If you simply forget the class date or are a no show on the day, we cannot offer a refund or credit.
As we are hosting the classes for our teachers – Tools Bucks cannot be used towards the classes, and although some teachers may offer a discount on multi-day courses, this is not a general rule across all classes.
