The Chizoku Hiraganna range is the perfect step up for anyone looking for a high quality hand-forged kanna with a smaller footprint than a full-size 65mm or 70mm smoother.
Handmade by Mizuno-san in his forge in Niigata prefecture, Each Chizoku kanna features a blue paper #1 (aogami #1) blade hand-forged and heat treated with expertise and experience that only few possess.
These beautiful planes take and hold a superlative edge, with Mizuno's calligraphy etched into the blade top and finished in his signature rough style.
The blocks are straight, tight grained and longer and taller than many. This is because this style is referred to as a "hiraganna" (smoothing plane), even in widths as small as 42mm and 48mm. By comparison, other 42mm and 48mm models such as our Iron Jigane kanna are shorter and therefore referred to as "mamehiraganna", with "mame" meaning small (or bean, depending on your translation).
