We spent along time looking for our Kamiwaza chisels, with a very specific shopping list of attributes and virtues in mind.
This is a chisel with a quality edge, high level of finish, worthy of professionals and eager to be put to work. The white paper steel edge is hard and hungry for an edge, and we have had great results setting them up with a flat back and brilliantly sharp bevel.
We particularly like the angular grind of the chisel's bevelled sides and low, sleek body that give it a look of elegance and lovely feel in the hand.
Finally, the red-oak handle arrives to the user with it's faceted ferrule already fit from the factory, requiring only a sharpen to get this chisel into your top drawer or most used tool roll.

For a 'budget' priced chisel, this tool out performs my old Stanley chisels, hands down. Now that I know what a well designed chisel is capable of, I will be getting some more. I was using it this morning to pare down the sides of a 45mm deep slot I had cut for a bench peg screw. Straight out of the box, it is razor sharp and cut the hard Ash easily. Do yourself a favour and buy one. You won't be disappointed.

I have been a fan of Japanese tools for a long while now. These Kamiwaza Bench Chisels live up to the hype. They are ecellent tools and were sharp out-of-the-box. I did however, honed them before getting stuck into my project. The ease at which they cut was remarkable - just as good as my dovetail chisels purchased from JTA some time ago. They do not dissapoint.
