Nagatsu-san's Ryoba saws are the epitome of this distinctly Japanese saw style.

Hand peened, set and filed, the teeth are a high quality high carbon steel.

Nagatsu-san's high gullets on the row of cross-cut teeth are each followed by a single rip-filed tooth. This clears large chips and leaves a clean surface on the bottom of the kerf ready to receive the next block of cross-cut teeth.

The rip side of the blade allows for fast and efficient ripping of material along the grain.

Nagatsu-san's distinctive hammer marks add or relieve tension in the saw plate, minimizing it's movement as it is pulled through the cut.

Finally, the hinoki handle feels light in the hand and warm to the touch. The rattan wrap at the top is used to reinforce the timber where it grips the tang of the blade.

Beautiful saw and great service

Love this saw, it cuts well and stays on course. The hand cut teeth work better than most other saws I've used over the years. I purchased it from Christian at the Hand Tool Event day at the Melbourne Guild of Fine Woodworking so was able to try it out before purchase which was good. The service was excellent as always. I just wish I had more spare time to use it. Next year I'll have some projects where it will come in handy for sure.
